PROJECT

G.R.A.C.E.

Getting Ready Ahead (of) Catastrophic Events

Source of Calm
During the Storm

The Church has a good history of reacting to catastrophic events in providing for the local community. In fact, the local Church has typically become a center point for those who are impacted by tragic events.

We live in very exciting and interesting times! As we listen to the news and read our daily papers, we see a world that sometimes looks like it is spinning out of control! We have wars and rumors of wars, earthquakes, tornados, huge hurricanes, terrorism and the threat of pestilence.

PROJECT G.R.A.C.E. helps the local Church develop a planned response to catastrophic events.  In our day, the following types of events are a very real threat:

 Pandemic Flu Outbreak

 Bio Terror/Nuclear Disaster

 Catastrophic Natural Disasters

Instead of reactingto a disaster - PROJECT G.R.A.C.E. is helping Harrison County's Faith-Based Community plan an organized response to these types of events.  Federal, State and Local authorities all agree that it is not if these events are going to happen - but when they will happen...

PROJECT G.R.A.C.E. has been prepared for you in conjunction with the following organizations:

 A Flame for Christ Ministries

Harrison County Local Emergency Planning Committee

WHAT THE CHURCHES
ARE CALLED TO DO IN
PROJECT G.R.A.C.E.

I. COMMUNICATIONS

A. FIRST AND FOREMOST The Church needs to communicate to the local congregation the "need for" individuals and families to be personally prepared "before" catastrophic events occur and "how to" prepare in advance.

B. Each Church should set up a G.R.A.C.E. Team to communicate to (a) the congregation; (b) to other churches; and (c) to the 911 Center during and after catastrophic events.

C. Each Church should set up and be part of the Harrison County Neighborhood Emergency Radio Communications System (NERCS).

II. MINISTRY OPPORTUNITIES

A. Work with and help the Elderly; Disabled and Handicapped in your community. Assign congregational members to minister on a regular basis, and especially during catastrophic events. This is called PROJECT S.A.F.E. [Shut-In's Assistance For Emergencies].

B. Be a back-up Shelter and/or Triage Center to handle overflow victims of a catastrophic event.

C. Be a Distribution Center for food, water and other emergency supplies during a catastrophic event.

D. Pastors be trained to serve as back-up volunteer Chaplains at the hospitals and also Chaplains to First Responders.

PROJECT G.R.A.C.E. has been established to help you plan in advance an organized response and be a source of calm in the storm!
